This piece was inspired by the commissioning ensembles' cats - Artemis and Xena. One of their cats has four legs, the other has three. For this reason, the piece juxtaposes 3/4 against 4/4. Cat Fight begins as a playful rondo, but then progresses to the calculated and impending fight, where the plotting swish of the cats' tails can be heard in the wire brushes on the snare drum.
